FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY SHOULD I HIRE A DOULA, I ALREADY HAVE THE SUPPORT OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY?

A doula provides their client with advocacy, information, comfort, nurture, referrals and individually crafted support when they are going through life’s transitions. Having family and friends to provide support is always important and should not be compared to the type of support a doula offers. A doula makes it their mission to ensure their client’s needs and wishes are met FIRST. At the same time, the doula provides extended support to family and friends as well.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING A BIRTH/POSTPARTUM DOULA?

Studies have shown that when a birthing person has a Doula supporting them through labor & delivery, there is less chance of emergency surgical birth and complications post-delivery. Hiring a doula not only provides a sense of security and validation to a birthing person, but it also guarantees the birthing or postpartum person’s best interests are prioritized.

Postpartum transition can be full of emotions, physical limitations, scheduling conflicts and anxiety. Having the support of a doula provides a sense of relief for new parents. The postpartum support I provide focuses on upholding the wishes of my clients as it pertains to newborn care, organization, scheduling, feeding (breastfeeding &/or formula) and planning. The burden of the unknown is lifted when supported by an experienced and knowledgeable support person.

IS IT REALLY NECESSARY TO HAVE A DOULA WHEN COPING WITH LOSS?

Think of a time when you lost a loved one or a baby, adoption fell through or were going through a divorce. Wouldn’t it have been helpful to have a support person available to you? Ensuring you are mentally and physically healthy? Providing you with resources to assist you in each phase of the transition? Affirming your feelings and walking with you as you recover from the trauma of loss?

At times, the people surrounding us during loss are not well versed on how to provide comfort without saying a single word of sympathy, through no fault of their own. Having a doula in place assists in getting through the stages of grief in a healthy way, while validating the individual experience.

WHEN SHOULD I BEGIN THE PROCESS?

Finding a Doula to support you should be based upon your need and desire. This experience is autonomous, which means, you decide!
